My new project at home is to finish sorting through all our old family photos. This seems to be taking me a long time. It's not something you can work on overnight. Hey, doesn't that sound just like weight loss. I really didn't make that connection until I started writing this post. Next week will be 2 years since I started (well restarted) at Weight Watchers. This is said with mixed emotions. For one I never thought I would have still been there, going religiously to my weigh ins (yay for me). On the otherhand, I never thought I would still be going and not reaching goal weight yet (boo for me).
Well, now I have gone off track from the original idea of my post. This morning I went to the store looking for some frames for my favourite photos that we have sorted through. What I want to do is create a collage family wall in my hallway. I even have some photos dating back to the 1920's. These old black and white photos seem to have held up much better than many of the colour photos taken in the 1960's. Anyways, as I was looking at frames, I overhead the salesguy talking to a female customer. She was trying to decide on a popcorn maker, but was concerned about adding butter to the popcorn. She mentioned she was trying to lose weight. He then went onto to show her (hang onto to your seats), a Cotton Candy Maker. I couldn't believe my ears and had to continue eavesdropping (ok, sometimes it is justified). He said (I kid you not) that it was a healthy option because you can make it with sugar free candy. Needless to say she bought the popcorn maker. I couldn't resist going to take a peek at the machine. Its scary to me how some people might think this is healthy. Buyer beware of the sales pitch!
Ok, I'll just sneak this in. WW weigh in this morning +2.3 lbs. Hopefully, you didn't read down this far.
Hey Katrin, when I was a kid there were commercials on t.v. with a Doctor recommending menthol cigarettes. It supposedly helped with a cold. So a salesperson pushing a sugar free cotton candy maker isn't so bad.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that is worse than the cotton candy! I do remember the I Love Lucy episodes where Lucy was smoking while pregnant. It just seems so strange to see this nowadays
DeleteI watched I Love Lucy reruns, and as a kid couldn't figure out how she got pregnant considering she and Ricky slept in separate beds! ;)
DeleteBetter luck next time at WW.
When I was young my grandparents, who I lived with, bought a huge cotton candy machine! My teeth definitely paid for that.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear she bought the popcorn machine! :-O Good luck on your photo project...a whole wall gives you lots of room and options!
ReplyDeleteHi Katrin! Well, a lot of people are permanently stuck in that time era where carbs of any sort were a dieter's best friend. That was also when everything sugar-free started happening. That was the 80's, I believe, when everyone started to get fatter.
ReplyDelete:-) Marion
I cannot believe the sales pitch for cotton candy, and as a healthy alternative?! That's crazy!
ReplyDeleteKeep working hard. The weight loss numbers will catch up :)
I'd like to take the sugar-free, fat-free revolution and flush it down the drain! It's so unfortunate that some people perpetuate this.
ReplyDeleteI agree!!!
DeleteI'm glad that woman saw through the transparent sales pitch. But then, I never was a big fan of cotton candy anyway. At least, not since I was 6 or so.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the weigh-in. You'll get better results next week!
Ha ha, read that far, but no worries, you'll get it back off in no time. And at least you didn't buy a cotton candy maker! ;-) If you haven't bought all the frames yet, I have a great connection for making photo canvases! :-D My home business is with Heritage Makers, a digital publishing company.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great you are sorting through photos! I tackled my mom's albums last summer by scanning them. I'd like to think I'm 30% through them haha.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend!
